Freedom!
Following on from my post on revelation and response, I’ve been thinking about truth and freedom (very Hollywood, I know). John 4v24 is a familiar verse: For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth … and this verse becomes even more interesting and important when we consider it in the context of freedom. 2 Corinthians 3v17 says that ‘the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, he gives freedom’ and Jesus says in John 8v32 that ‘you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free’. So when we worship in spirit and truth, when we see revelation, our response is one of absolute freedom.
To take this a little bit further, Romans 8 is a fantastic chapter on the life of freedom and what it actually looks like. It shows us that a life of freedom is a life without condemnation, being led by the Spirit, with thinking that pleases God, full of life and peace, with certain hope of eternal life, with right standing with God, with the life-giving Spirit living inside us, with certainty we are children of God, sharing in Christ’s glory/treasure and suffering, where everything working together for good, and a life of overwhelming victory where we are inseparable from Gods love.
What an inspiration and encouragement! It excites me to see the life of freedom available for each of us – by living a life full of the Spirit and full of truth.
